A place of gossip, banter and a thousand different exchanges, the modern market place offers a captivating look into the lives of others: intriguing but all too fleeting. From Bar Italia in Soho, London, to Lucia's at the Adelaide Central market stories are being told in these gathering spaces where conversations and relationships unfold.

STORIES FROM THE MARKET PLACE is a collaboration between cross-cultural performance company, para//elo and UK sound artist Scanner (Robin Rimbaud). A visual and sonic installation interwoven with incidental performance, it investigates the relationships between sound and architectural space; between information, place and history; between relationships and conversations.

The work took visitors on an alternative tour of the market place: from sublime cafe space where personal stories are shared; to a busy laneway full of spruikers and day-to-day life of the stall-holders; to a reflective listening space where fragments of verbal histories play intimately on headphones.
